Although the LevelUp Reader app has the same functionality as the web version of LevelUp, there are some minor differences that maximize mobile platform capabilities. The differences are described below.
Using Your Personalized Bookshelf
Your LevelUp personalized bookshelf functions mostly the same in the app as it does in the web version, but there are a few differences in how it looks that you may notice right away:
When you hold your device in portrait orientation, the icons that are at the top of the LevelUp web version bookshelf (the toolbar) are at the bottom of the window in the LevelUp Reader app. Also, the book search field that appears to the right of the toolbar buttons in the web version is accessed in the app by tapping the Search button that’s been added to the toolbar:
Tap any of the other buttons in the toolbar to exit search.
When you turn your device to landscape orientation, the bookshelf toolbar disappears:
However, the toolbar options are always available in the menu you open by tapping the three lines (the “hamburger” menu) in the upper
left-hand corner of the window:
Reading a Book
To read a book in the LevelUp Reader app, tap its cover on your bookshelf. The book opens
with play controls beneath the book’s pages:
If you’d like to read the book by yourself, swipe right to go forward in the book and left to go backward. If you’d like to have the book read to you, press the
play button and follow along with the highlighting as the words are read
aloud. Use the volume controls to the left of the play button to
control the loudness of the narration.
The LevelUp Reader app does not currently support “bookmarking” (remembering where you left off in an unfinished boo), playing a single word or sentence aloud, or the ability to record yourself reading.
Use the menu that opens when you tap the three lines in the upper
left-hand corner of the window to return to your bookshelf (tapping the X in the upper right-hand corner also returns you to the bookshelf), add the
book to your favorites, or download the book so that you can read it later without an Internet connection:
