Assessing Comprehension with Book Quizzes

Assessing Comprehension with Book Quizzes

LevelUp Reader books include brief comprehension quizzes. Students are automatically given a quiz after they complete a book (unless a teacher has adjusted the "quiz frequency" setting in My Classroom). Quizzes typically contain 5 or 10 multiple-choice items, and a constructed response task is included for most books of 340L and higher.

Each quiz item assesses one comprehension skill and one ELA standard. ELA standards are specifically tailored to your location, based on your state, province, or territory. You can review student performance according to each skill and standard in Reports.

Lower-level quizzes on LevelUp Reader include audio support. The student can click the speaker icon to hear the question and answer read aloud:

Enabling Refer to Book in Quiz Settings allows students to view the relevant book when taking a quiz. A Jump to Book button appears above the quiz cards when this feature is enabled:

When a student clicks the button, the book appears side-by-side with the quiz card:

Note that Refer to Book is disabled for all students by default.

LevelUp Reader also saves student progress on any incomplete quizzes, so that they can partially complete a quiz and return to it later without losing their answers.
